JD was born in Cork and is an arts graduate of U.C.C. He has worked with most of the major Irish theatre companies including Druid in Galway and The Abbey and Gate theatres in Dublin. In the UK, where he has lived for many years, he has worked in the West End, at the National Theatre and with a number of British regional theatres.
His recent theatre work includes: Yes, So I Said Yes by David Ireland (Ransom, Belfast) I’ll Be the Devil by Leo Butler (RSC) Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa (Library, Manchester) Translations (Bristol Old Vic) and the British premiere production of Volunteers (Gate, London) Bedbound by Enda Walsh (Lion & Unicorn, London) The Synge Trilogy (Southwark Playhouse, London) Sive by JB Keane (Tricycle, London.) Marathon by Eduardo Erba (Gate, London) Television includes, Little Britain, My Family & Murphys Law for BBC; Sharpe & The Bill for ITV; City of Vice & Storm in a Teacup for Channel 4.JD played a paedophile, in the 2011 season of Ros na Run (TG4) in what was billed as their hardest hitting storyline ever.
